Senior Mechanical Engineer with Building Services experience to work on a range of challenging, dynamic and high-profile projects where you will have the ability to receive and develop a brief and contribute to the development of the design and construction process.

Our client is an international multi-disciplinary consultancy that are now seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Team in the Birmingham office.

The Birmingham office covers the Midlands region (generally the administrative counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and the West Midlands) and is the administrative centre of the Midland and South Division. It is one of the largest regional offices and undertakes a wide range of work for clients within the region. This includes infrastructure in the form of highways, bridges, railways, traffic and metro systems, structural design, building services, wastewater treatment, geotechnical and contaminated land engineering, tunnels, drainage and sewerage and PFI technical advisory work.

The successful applicant will work as part of a busy and successful team to deliver medium to large scale projects in both the public and private sector.

Principle functions will include:

· Mechanical design work for a range of projects
· Liaise with other construction professionals
· Leading small teams of engineers to deliver projects on time and to budget
· Ensuring compliance with company quality systems
· The Mechanical Engineer shall carry out Heat loss and Heat gain calculation both by static and dynamic means
· Establish the ventilation, heating and A/C layout together with all aspect of public health.
· Coordinate with the electrical design engineer and issue all information to allow electrical design to be completed
· Liaise with the design team members to convey the requirements of the M&E service to them, as well as understanding the client brief
· Write the specification for the project and establish the schedules for all equipment
· Respond to contractor queries and attend site progress meetings

Candidates should have a good multidisciplinary knowledge of their field and be able to positively advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts mechanical engineering issues.

Essential requirements:
· BSc /BEng or HNC/D in related subject
· Exposure of a range of mechanical engineering solutions
· Background in HVAC applications
· Knowledgeable in the use of Hevacomp
· Proven track record in client facing
· A strong technical focus
· Capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desirable:
· Chartered or on route to Chartership
· Ideally, a background of working in UK Mechanical engineering involved in the lifecycles of projects
· Proven track record of leading small teams to deliver projects on time and to budget
· Proven track record of working in or with a multi-disciplinary design consultancy
· The ability to work on own initiative on smaller projects would be an advantage
· Experience on sustainable design practice would be an advantage
· Knowledge of ACAD
· We currently operate the NES package so experience of this would be an advantage. We also use IES simulation software for which training would be given if necessary
