Full Description:
The appointed project manager will have a key role to play in developing the Digital Birmingham economics and entrepreneurship programme strand. This includes planning and managing a portfolio of projects and partnership building activities.

Role and Responsibilities –
• To create and scope project opportunities and advise around entrepreneurship, regeneration and economic development in Birmingham
• To project manage incubator projects with the aim to establish mainstream usage
• To gain a strategic view and develop the activity portfolio over a period i.e. until 2010 in the first instance and beyond
• To work with education institutions and other organisations to encourage entrepreneurship for young people
• To build and manage relationships and partnerships with often senior stakeholders in a variety of organisations in Public, Private and Third Sector
• To maintain specialist knowledge in the area of economic development and to influence existing and planned activities in Birmingham like the Eastside regeneration area or the Master Plan creation.
• To gather and analyse complex data, prepare recommendations, provide management information reports and proposals and present these where applicable e.g. in strategy or policy consultation responses
• To manage suppliers and contractors to deliver projects where appropriate
• To plan own and others work within defined objectives (project or other)

Key Skills –
• To maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Birmingham and West Midland economic development, planning and regeneration areas and issues
• Ability to work and engage with entrepreneurs, SMEs, the business sector and its support organisations
• Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with project partners and key stakeholders
• The ability to plan, organise, schedule and coordinate multiple tasks to accomplish objectives while working independently and with initiative to tight deadlines
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills and high level of creativity, adaptability and persistence in order to find the best solutions
• Ability to produce and review business cases
• Experience of contributing to proposals/bids and managing resources i.e. suppliers or contractors
• Experience in managing projects and understanding of project management methodologies such as PRINCE2™
• Understanding of the needs of the knowledge society and the role digital technologies could play in urban regeneration

Other details –
• Adherence to the Equal Opportunities Policy and Health & Safety at Work legislation and best practice operated by Service Birmingham will be required.
• Travel to conferences or project partners in the UK/Europe

Level of Supervision -
• The post holder will report to the Director of Digital Development & Communities.
• The post holder will be required to plan own work to meet defined objectives with minimal supervision.
